Bring these questions
- Which of my marks are flat discolouration and which are true scars?
- Which scar types do I have in each zone of my face, and how would the approach differ between them?
- Is my acne controlled enough to start scar work, and how many trips might a staged plan take?
Recognising scar types
Atrophic scars are usually described by shape. Icepick scars are narrow and deep, boxcar scars are wider with defined edges, and rolling scars are shallow undulations tethered from underneath. Most faces carry a mixture, and different zones may need different methods.
Why the plan follows the examination
A photograph or a single label does not capture the mix. The physician looks at the skin, often under side lighting, before building a plan. Active breakouts usually need control first, since new inflammation can leave new marks.
Options that may be combined
Acne Scar Revision stages methods such as subcision with a collagen stimulator, with laser or radiofrequency microneedling added only if needed. Potenza may form part of a plan for shallow scarring and texture. Flat discolouration is a pigment question rather than a scar question.
Realistic expectations and downtime
Treatment may make scars less noticeable over several sessions. Improvement varies, and scars are not erased. Downtime varies by method and can include redness, swelling, bruising or peeling. If the physician recommends something different from what you expected, the reasoning is explained and nothing proceeds without consent.
