Enlarged pores

Pores around the nose and cheeks can look enlarged in close-up photos or under makeup. A pore is the opening of a hair follicle and its oil gland, and what changes over time is how visible it is, not how many there are.

Bring these questions

  • Is my pore visibility driven mostly by oil output, by loss of skin elasticity, or by both?
  • Which treatment would you suggest, and how much visible recovery does it involve?
  • How should I take baseline photos so that any change can be judged fairly?

What makes pores look larger

Size is set largely by genetics and oil production. Higher oil output widens the opening; sun and age reduce the elasticity holding it, so it springs back less; and a wider opening collects shadow. Lighting and season change how pores look, so a single photo is a poor baseline.

What treatment can change

Pores are not closed permanently, and their number does not change. What can change is oil output, the condition and thickness of the surrounding skin, and how much shadow the opening collects. Expectations are set around visibility, not disappearance.

Treatment directions

Radiofrequency treatment such as Potenza targets texture and pores over a course. Oil-related concerns overlap with acne care, which is aimed at the sebaceous glands. Where laxity contributes, tightening options may be discussed. The physician matches the approach to the cause.

Recovery depends on the treatment

Downtime depends on the treatment, not the concern. Options range from sessions with no visible recovery to sessions with a few days of redness or flaking. The physician confirms expected recovery for your plan before you book, and explains any recommendation that differs from your request.
