Bring these questions

  • Is my pigment freckles, sun spots, melasma or deeper acquired pigment, and how deep does it sit?
  • If melasma is present, how gentle will the settings be and how many sessions should I expect?
  • Have I tanned recently enough that treatment should wait?

Identifying the pigment first

Pigment is not one condition. Freckles and sun spots sit near the surface, while melasma and some acquired pigment sit deeper and react to heat. The physician checks type, depth, spread, skin sensitivity and recent tanning before choosing a wavelength and settings area by area.

The melasma caveat

Melasma can darken if treated too hard, and it can return. It is treated at gentle settings over several sessions, with daily sun protection as part of the plan. A single session is not presented as clearing pigment.

Choosing between pigment options

The First Pigment laser Omakase is a combined introductory program with three laser steps and a consultation. Enlighten is a single-device pigment treatment. Acne-related marks may call for acne control first. The physician suggests which suits your pigment.

Recovery

Mild redness or tightness can occur, and surface spots can darken and flake before they fade. Recovery varies by individual and by pigment type. Sun protection afterwards matters, so plan outdoor time and travel with this in mind.
