Thermage

Thermage heats the deep dermis with monopolar radiofrequency through a cooled, vibrating tip, for early looseness on the jawline, cheeks and around the eyes. Some firmness may be felt soon after, but most change depends on collagen remodelling over months.

Bring these questions

  • Is my laxity early enough for a dermal treatment, or is the sagging too heavy for Thermage to address?
  • Which areas, including the eye area, would you treat, and how would that change my time in clinic?
  • Do my implants, medical devices or skin condition rule Thermage out or change the plan?

What the assessment looks for

The physician examines where the looseness sits on the jawline, cheeks and eye area, then decides the areas and shot count. Photos from the front and both sides, earlier lifting, filler or threads with rough dates, and any implants help decide whether planning around your trip makes sense.

What it is not designed for

Thermage is not designed for heavy sagging or a large amount of excess skin. How much change you see and how long it lasts vary, so any repeat is planned at follow-up rather than fixed. The small comparison study cited by Tune Clinic does not establish results for a specific Thermage generation.

Comparable options

Ultherapy delivers focused ultrasound to set depths including the SMAS, while Thermage warms a broad dermal area. Oligio and TenTherma are other monopolar radiofrequency devices. A thread lift may be discussed when tissue needs repositioning. The examination, not the price, guides the choice.

Screening and recovery

A pacemaker or implanted electrical device, metal implants in the area, active skin infection, pregnancy or breastfeeding can rule it out. Each pulse feels hot despite cooling, and you can ask for pauses. Redness, warmth, swelling or tenderness can follow, so mention any event or flight nearby.

A source to discuss

A small study of monopolar radiofrequency and microfocused ultrasound reported improvement in facial and neck laxity, but it does not establish results for a particular Thermage model or treatment plan.

Monopolar radiofrequency compared with microfocused ultrasound for mild-to-moderate face and upper-neck laxity. It does not cover a particular Thermage generation, the eye tip, a dose or a combined treatment plan.

A randomized split-face trial in 20 people followed for six months. Both sides improved with no significant difference between them, which is not evidence that the two treatments are equivalent, and the abstract does not name the commercial devices used.
